| Services The publishing process is a series of steps that transforms a manuscript from the hands of an author to a book or piece of music available to be enjoyed by the public. To make this happen, we provide the following services: Editing: Editing of manuscripts is done by contracted professionals, generally individuals with a B.A. or higher in English. Singing River Publications matches the content of the manuscript to the skills and background of its stable of editors. The editing process is done in cooperation with the author within a prescribed time frame. Illustration: Illustration of books, when deemed to add value to the product (such as children's books) is done by contracted professionals, generally individuals with a B.A. or higher in art and experience as an illustrator. Singing River Publications matches the content of the manuscript to the skills and background of its illustrators. The illustrating process, like editing, is done in cooperation with the author within a prescribed time frame. Pre-Publication Layout: Pre-publication layout is done by an independent contractor, in cooperation with Singing River Publications, its editors, illustrators, and the author. The pre-publication contractor is responsible for formatting the manuscript using Quark, the software program required by publishers. The pre-publication company is also responsible for scheduling the production of all publications, tracking progress, and playing a quality control role. Printing: Printing is done by independent print houses, with supervision by Singing River Publications through its pre-publication contractor. SRP shops printing companies for price and value. The number and type of books published (i.e., hard or soft cover) is determined by the contract between the author and Singing River Publications, Inc. Distribution: Distribution of books is a shared responsibility of the author and Singing River Publications as defined in the publishing contract. Because the author owns the rights to the book, the primary responsibility in this area falls to him/her. The company does provide some marketing services both as part of its base contract with the author. Additional marketing services may be purchased on an ala carte basis. |
